“Ghosting” Residency: KALLE BROLIN
Lavanderia a Vapore, Collegno, Torino, Italy
May 24 – June 1, 2024
As one of the On Mobilisation artists, Kalle Brolin was invited to “ghost” the artistic process of Elisabetta Consonni, during her last residency session during which she was finalising the output of “How to become a platypus”, leading towards the premiere. Kalle also participated in the scheduled cohort meeting and in the International Symposium On Mobilisation of Care curated and organised by Lavanderia a Vapore in collaboration with the invited artists Consonni and Ninarello.
During the residency, Kalle spent time with Elisabetta in the studio, asking questions on the theme and the process. This practice was impactful for Consonni that could finally envision the connections among all the phases or her research and the leverage points of the artistic device she developed. Kalle’s artistic practice, deeply rooted in storytelling, video and language, surely informed his capacity to apply specific methods in feedback sessions and in formulating with clarity.
In the final days of the residency, they tested together the score created by Elisabetta and worked together playfully in the Atelier, making objects and tools for Elisabetta’s performance, while also discussing the space setting.
All the artistic features of Kalle — storytelling, object creation and space observation — deeply shaped their time together and the feedback that the “ghost” provided: as a real ghost, his presence was sometimes comforting for Elisabetta and sometimes a trigger to help her to see things without providing direct answers or interventions.
Finally, Kalle participated directly in the final sharing of Consonni’s work and in all the program of the International Symposium organised by Lavanderia a Vapore.
