Tomorrow marks the start of Kalle Brolin’s third residency at BAC

September 11, 2024Gotland

The third residency focuses on creating an art video to sum up the project. It will involve revisiting people and places from previous residencies and adding new ones. Along with BAC, a conversation will be recorded with two participants from the evening school, discussing the role of art in movements, filmed at the home of Hans and Maud Söderberg, veterans of the 1980s peace movement in Gotland.

A Peace Talk, similar to the March sessions, was proposed but fell through due to scheduling issues with involved organizations. Instead, an evening organized by Svenska Freds- och Skiljedomsföreningen will be documented, featuring a guest speaker on Swedish arms exports.

The main focus will be the art video Freden på Gotland (“Peace on Gotland”). New footage will be filmed, and rights to archival material will be secured. Among those revisited will be Kerstin Blomberg in Fårö, who will provide images from her work with Ukrainian refugees. A visit to a collection point for materials sent to Ukraine will also take place, combining conversation with helping around her farmhouse.

The eco-village Suderbyn, near a military shooting range, will be revisited to shoot new footage and obtain press images from the Swedish army and NATO for the video. These contrasting images of peace work and peacekeeping will be edited together.
