Residency
Artistic Residency: DANIELE NINARELLO
Lavanderia a Vapore, Collegno, Torino, Italy
Period I. April 14 – April 24, 2023
Period II. October 30 – November 7, 2023
In 2023 Lavanderia a Vapore focused on the artistic inquiry of Daniele Ninarello, supporting the development of his project “Healing Together”.
“Healing Together” was born from a series of short choreographic actions called “silent protests” created during the lockdown periods and dedicated to the concept of ‘the body of protest’. Our days require a reflection on the sense of care, participation, listening and healing. Bodies are continuously restrained by cultural environments, they are territories colonised by control, violence, and offense; we are forced not to express our vulnerability, which remains not observed and uncelebrated.
Stating these concerns, the artistic intention was to create a physical shared practices focus on listening to what one’s connective tissues asks to release in response to the information given by the environment in which the bodies are immersed.
During the first residency period (14/04-24/04/2023) Daniele Ninarello explored these shared practice with local communities (mostly the dance well project community) and four performers to train these listening capacity. During these sessions, the identity of each individual body is revealed and deconstructed in real-time, through the encounter with others, showing how boundaries can surrender and cease defending. A mutual construction starts activating where the performers translate in real-time the choreographic score that is written on their body moment by moment.
During the second residency period (30/10-07/11/2023) Ninarello and his collaborators, worked on the emerging choreographic device as an expansion of the somatic experiences previously developed. The residency ended with the presentation of the performative output that premiered during the Evening School on Care. “Healing Together” involved 4 performers live in front of the audience. This immersive state created a condition of intimacy and evoked dream-like state of being together.
