Ahilan Ratnamohan is kunstenaar maar ook een obsessieve taal-leerling die dagelijks leeft in verschillende talen. In zijn werk onderzoekt hij het aanleren van een taal als een soort performance.

Ahilan is op dit moment bezig met een nieuw project: The Institute for Anarchic and Artistic Language Learning, in de stijl van het Goethe Instituut, de Alliance Française of The British Council. Maar The Institute staat voor het verspreiden van alternatieve en ongewaardeerde technieken en tactieken om talen aan te leren. Tegelijkertijd stelt The Institute zich vragen over wat wordt gevalideerd als taal-didactiek.

Kunnen wij onze taalvaardigheden loskoppelen van de bestaande hiërarchische en hegemonische denkkaders die kenmerkend zijn voor het leren van een “nieuwe” taal?

Voor The Institute zoekt Ahilan taalliefhebbers om deel te nemen aan een workshop/presentatie.

Hoewel de workshop gericht is op en verrijkend is voor (volwassen) taalstudenten, taal-leerkrachten en taalliefhebbers, tolken, vertalers en interculturele bemiddelaars, staat het ook zeker open voor mensen die gewoon nieuwsgierig zijn naar taalfilosofie en taaldidactiek.

PROGRAMMA

De workshop/presentaties (Nederlands en Engels als voertalen) zullen doorgaan op:

• Zaterdag, 15 juni, tussen 13u30:16u00 / CANCELED
• Zaterdag, 22 juni, tussen 13u30:16u00 
• Donderdag, 27 juni, tussen 18u00 en 22u30
  Feestelijke versie & afsluiting moment van de artistieke residentie met avondeten en drankjes aan vrij bijdrage.
  18u00-19u00 – aperitief & avondeten
  19u00-21u30 – workshop/presentatie
  21u30-22u30 – dessert & drankje

Ahilan Ratnamohan is an artist, but also an obsessive language learner, busy with a number of languages on a daily basis. In his work he researches language learning as a form of performance.

Ahilan is currently working on a new project: The Institute for Anarchic and Artistic Language Learning, in the style of the Goethe Institut, Alliance Francaise or The British Council. But The Institute is created to make alternative and under-valued language-learning techniques and tactics more accessible. At the same time, The Institute raises questions in regards to language-learning pedagogy and what gets validated as such.

Can we separate our language abilities from the existing hierarchies and hegemonic frames of reference which mark the way “new” languages are taught?

For The Institute Ahilan is searching for language-learners and language-enthusiasts to take part in a workshop/presentation.

Although the workshop is directed at and most beneficial for (adult) language students, language teachers and language enthusiasts, interpreters, translators and intercultural mediators, it is also definitely open and welcoming to people who are simply curious about language philosophy and pedagogy.

PROGRAMME

The workshops/presentations (undertaken in Dutch and English) will take place on:

• Saturday, 15th of June, from 13:30-16:00 / CANCELED
• Saturday, 22nd of June, from 13:30-16:00
• Thursday 27th of June, between 18:00 and 22:30
  Wrap-up event with dinner and drinks for free contribution.
  18:00-19:00 – aperitif & dinner
  19:00-21:30 – workshop/presentation
  21:30-22:30 – dessert & drink
