You’re Invited to III: ASSEMBLIES – Final Chapter of Il/legal Fictions at au JUS
Join us for the final chapter of Il/legal Fictions, hosted by au JUS, as we explore the enactment of the ‘public body’ at the intersection of performance and political action. This event will showcase Danae Theodoridou’s artistic research and her book, Publicing – Practicing Democracy Through Performance.
Danae Theodoridou believes that politics is a performative act, intimately connected with the body’s public appearances and forms. During this event, participants will experiment with performance as a way to reconstruct public space and time beyond capitalist organizing principles. The focus will be on bodily presence and collective action in public discourse, including the creation of a citizens’ assembly. Guided by a script assigning roles and actions, participants will reflect on how legal frameworks influence social coexistence.
In addition, Danae Theodoridou and sociologist Rudi Laermans will discuss the role of art in reimagining civic participation, exploring how differences can be confronted constructively. THE ADVERSARIES, a participatory performance, will guide two groups into a playful, performative conflict to create a shared space born from their different perspectives and reflect on conflict as a vital democratic practice.
Event Highlights:
- 17 February: Performing the Public Body – Creation of public space and time through performance workshop with Danae Theodoridou.
- 18 February: An Attempt To Devise a Democratic Assembly – Participatory performance with Danae Theodoridou.
- 19 February: Democratic Politics as ‘Publicing’ – Book presentation with sociologist Rudi Laermans and Danae Theodoridou in dialogue.
