Welcome to the screening of Peace on Gotland by Kalle Brolin
Welcome to the screening of Peace on Gotland by Kalle Brolin. The event takes place at Almedals Library, E22 auditorium, on the 1st of April from 17:00 to 19:00. This screening marks the Swedish premiere of Peace on Gotland, shown as part of the lecture series “Gotland in Transition,” organised by the Institute for Russian and Eurasian Studies at Uppsala University.
Two years ago, BAC invited artist Kalle Brolin to participate in an art project about the peace movement on Gotland, as part of the European cooperation project On Mobilisation. The artist responded by creating a portrait of the peace movement on Gotland in the form of a film essay. The film includes footage, photographs, and archive material shared by peace activists he met on Gotland, combined with his own film material shot during the project.
In March 2024, BAC organised the study group Peace Talks, led by Kalle Brolin, bringing together the individuals the artist had worked with on Gotland, as well as a broad group of activists and interested people. The group explored the image of the peace movement, built connections, and shared insights into each other’s peace work. Both the study group and Brolin’s film essay Peace on Gotland address questions that emerged during his time on the island: How do you make an abstract concept like peace concrete? What does a peace movement look like? Peace on Gotland is also on view as part of the On Mobilisation exhibition at Out of Sight in Antwerp until 30 March.
The project Peace on Gotland is part of On Mobilisation, a European cooperation project co-funded by the European Union and the Swedish Arts Council.
The project seeks to mobilise local and transnational communities through artistic processes and is organised by an international partnership consisting of wpZimmer, Baltic Art Center, Studio ALTA, and Lavanderia a Vapore, in cooperation with associated partner GRASS Uppsala University Campus Gotland.
